Eschatology Issues CLVIII

Word RTF

Question #1:

Hi Bob,

Eyes are healing nicely and by the end of next week, I'll be able to get reading glasses. Thank you for your prayers. Reading on a computer is horrible and increasingly, there's little worth reading. Reading is one thing I've truly missed. Surprisingly, learning to live without glasses has been more challenging than I expected. One observation, though, I think may be relevant:

What I'm able to see now is stunning. It makes 1 Corinthians 2:9 even more encouraging. The world I'm seeing now is magnificent and in many cases, things I've not seen before. For example, my family of swallows zips by at 20-30 MPH and still manages to harvest mosquitoes. If our senses are that much improved after the resurrection, the scripture is absolutely right; we can't imagine. It also demonstrates, at least to me, that we have no idea of actual reality.

A recurring theme in your weekly emails is the questioning people's salvation. I don't know nearly as much as you, but it seems to me what the Lord said is absolutely reliable -- all who believe in him have everlasting life. That seems unequivocal to me. I assume the translation is accurate.

It the risk if rambling, thank you for your prayers. Being able to read again will be icing on my little cake.

Thankful in our Lord,

Response #1:

I have been wondering how you were doing, but sending you something you then had to read seemed to be wrong.

That's a great observation. And I would imagine that the huge difference you're experiencing is infinitesimal compared to the difference between this body and the resurrection body, on top of what we already know from scripture (link).

Keeping you in my prayers for a continued, blessed recovery, my friend.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #2:

Hi Dr L,

I have good news! So I go back and forth on reading different books of yours. And I can see I am making progress, things click that didn't before and parts of it are already in memory. So that is good! And I am still reading the Bible of course, and it is amazing to me how many things people say that are immediately shown to be false just from reading the Bible. I also am coming to like Socrates more, so there is that.

How are you doing? If you are stressed and busy you don't have to talk about it.

By the way, do you mind if I ask: I know you are a master Classicist, are you also a Philologist (in the Classics area, and since you know Biblical Hebrew)? I just realized I am a bit confused on the two, and it doesn't really matter that much, but just curious.

I made a fantasy list of all the things I'd study and learn if God were to tell me I have centuries and it was okay. it was mostly Spirituality, Literature (especially Classics kind of things), and History.

Please take care,
PS: Centuries because I'd want to read primary sources in the original lanaguages from all over as much as possible.

Response #2:

Classics and [Classical] Philology are synonymous. The name of the Classics professional association is "The American Philological Society". Most Classicists don't know Hebrew nowadays (although there was a time when many did), but many do know other languages off the beaten track. Arabic can be important for, e.g., Aristotle, since some of his stuff only survives in Arabic translation.

It's great that you have these enthusiasms! In New Jerusalem, there will be plenty to learn . . . about God! We have no idea how great and wonderful He is (so much is veiled from us at present), but I am certain that we could devote ourselves to learning about Him every day in eternity and never get close to knowing the infinite all of Him.

Whether these things we find interesting here and now will still be so to us then is an interesting question. But consider how many wonderful things there are in this creation of His. It will only be better and much, much more on the other side!

(1) And [then] (i.e., at the conclusion of the last judgment) I saw a New Heaven and a New Earth [appear]. For the previous heaven and the previous earth had passed away (Rev.20:11), and the sea [now] no longer existed [on this New Earth].  (2) And I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, beautified as a bride adorned for her [future] husband.  (3) And there was a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is [now] with men. And He has taken up residence with them, and they will be His people, and He Himself will be their God."  (4) And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. And there will no longer be any death, or cries of pain, or grief. For the previous things have passed away.  (5) Then the One sitting upon the Throne said to me, "Behold! I am making everything new." And He says to me, "Write that these words are faithful and true.
Revelation 21:1-5

Hope you're having a good week!

Question #3:

Hi Bob,

Just wanted to let you know that I'm almost healthy. Thanks to Jesus!!

[omitted] It's been a miracle for me.

I did notice that if you are unhealthy it's a struggle spiritually to stay on task because of your flesh.

I kept praying regardless and never lost faith.

I also wanted to tell you that I came across someone on X that has a page called Turn back to God. I sent out a message asking him if he heard of you and gave him your website. He responded this morning. Here is his response.

I never heard of him, but I did audio listen to his book today “The Satanic Rebellion,” and now just read the book, and I agree with everything he says.

He gives a brilliant explanation on how satan is trying to manipulate God by saying;

"I and my followers shall be free of God's retribution, because if God were to destroy us or otherwise eternally punish us, the completeness and harmony that a God-like universe demands would be forever lost, because:

1. God cannot replace us (no completeness)

2. God cannot rehabilitate us (no harmony)

3. Therefore God cannot punish us

Then he explains how satan is relying on Gods character to save him of retribution after he rebelled against God.

That is exactly what is playing out today with this deception. Humanity is being ensnared by satan's schemes by preying on our emotions and fallen nature to save this world (his world).

Prophecy will continue to be fulfilled when humanity takes Gods Kingdom by force all in the name of "Peace and Safety."

I responded back and let him know that you have an email and are great at responding.

I also told him one of my favorite book was the Coming Tribulation.

Anyway this made my day! I finally found someone that actually read something on your website after telling them about it! Yipee! I don't know his name, but maybe he will contact you and continue to read.

[omitted] __ travels back and fourth every 4-5 days. It's been a struggle financially. Real estate is slow. Please pray we can get through this one. After all we have been through in the 10 years and especially this year we could use a break.

I'm going to let you go, hope you have a good day!

Response #3:

That's wonderful news about your health! It makes my day to hear this. I was really worried about you.

Yes, I am and will be keeping you and __ and the business and finances and all other things in my prayers, my friend. The Lord delivered you from this; He can deliver you from that too.

So many good people getting so much testing and pressure of late. Must be a reason for that (we could probably guess why). Not like you guys haven't already had your fair share! But God knows what He is doing. It is a wonderful testimony that your faith has only strengthened through all these trials. I'm sure there is a great reward waiting for you.

In anticipation of this ultimate deliverance, your joy overflows, though at present it may be your lot to suffer for a time through various trials to the end that your faith may be shown to be genuine. This validation of your faith is far more valuable than gold, for gold, though it too is assayed by fire, ultimately perishes. But your faith, when proven genuine in the crucible of life, will result in praise, glory and honor for you at the glorious return of Jesus Christ. Though you have never laid eyes on Him, yet you love Him. And though you cannot see Him at this present time, yet you have faith in Him. For this reason you rejoice with an inexpressible joy that bespeaks the glorious future to come, when you shall carry off in victory the ultimate prize – the deliverance of your lives – which is the very purpose and objective of this faith of yours.
1st Peter 1:6-9

Thanks for sharing Ichthys! That makes my day too.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #4:

Hi Bob,

I have felt a bit low and paranoid of late as the problem is with this type of insidious abuse with plausible deniability built in and with its subtlety, you either doubt yourself completely (nothing is happening) or go into hypervigilance mode (things are happening all the time) and then you end up thinking something is about to happen when it isn't whilst doubting that it is. This is the kind of insanity making that covert/ insidious abuse takes. In time it makes the victim look crazy as they are looking for signs of things everywhere.

I guess the best strategy is only to deal with things once they have really happen in an undeniable way but also to note individuals who have sketchy behaviour where you are always wondering what is happening and give those people a very wide berth/if not avoid altogether.

Thanks for the support. So many things have gone wrong lately and I think it has worn me down a bit but the enemy knows that I struggle more with a war of attrition rather than in your face conflict.

In Jesus,

Response #4:

I think it's a good perspective, namely, that there are people out there who are hard to pin down. My attitude: don't bother. Life is too short to spend too much time and effort on anyone who can't be straightforward (unless it's absolutely necessary).

Also, "war of attrition" is a good way to look at it for the most part. The big difference is that while it may seem to the world -- and to us -- that we're worn down to the point of disappearing, the Lord's resources are infinite. If we would only trust Him and hold on in hope, we'd never lose. Job gave up at the last minute. For us, the "straw that broke the camel's back" is just another straw . . . if we are willing to keep looking at things the right way. This is obviously easier said than done when we are the ones on the firing line, but it is the truth.

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”
Hebrews 13:5b-6 NIV

Keeping you in my prayers, my friend.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #5:

Thanks Bob,

So much that you write back is what I need to hear. It's funny about that other straw comment. It's like deep down, I know that I only need to do this walk one day and one step at a time and I also know that whatever I had to get through yesterday is already over. I also know that, deep down, that the Lord has already got me through so much and the things I have suffered aren't a big deal compared to the testing you read in the Bible. It's like I know all this but then I realise that the problem is not the tests themselves and obviously not the Lord (God forbid!) but the problem is with me.

It's my particular weaknesses in the flesh that I am trying to overcome to the point that the tests themselves could be anything. It's probably that the enemy knows what my weaknesses are and so these are the places where he continually attacks so it is up to me to develop a kind of calloused skin over muscle around these weak points that I keep getting tripped up on.

I have said this before but the thing that is my biggest 'Achilles heel' is my hypervigilant sense of fairness. This has become my hindrance in being tested in general. I have to say that the flesh part of me feels that suffering whilst innocent is very unjust and a huge part of me cries out against it.

A huge amount of this stems from my being abused in childhood. What upset me the most about it was not only being punished whilst being innocent of wrongdoing but also the double standards of having to live to a very strict code of behaviour set by __ and the pain of hypocrisy and double standards when __ didn't __-self. I know this happens a lot in cults whereby a tyrant style leader creates an atmosphere of fear and strict legalism which the leader himself does not have to adhere to.

I can't tell you how crushing it is for a child to be told 'you have to do this' or 'you can't do that' whilst simultaneously seeing __do as __ pleases. In part, the scapegoat role assigned to me by my family was due to my young precocious, if smart, self constantly asking 'but why doesn't __ have to do this?' I realise this is the whole point in that this is how Satan operates on children, to get them to mistrust and despise authority at an early age due to the abuses of it. There may be a lot of 'pre-emptive' striking going on in this war in getting to children early.

When we are young Satan tempts with a world of sin and distractions. When we tire of it, he throws false religion/spirituality our way. If we manage to get to the Gospel, he adds or subtracts things to/from it. If we are saved, he pushes false teachers our way. If we stick to a good ministry, he throws temptation our way to be led off into weeds. If we grow despite this, he hopes to use our vulnerabilities against us in testing. When we soldier through, he throws up obstacles and time wasters to derail our ministries. A fight throughout.

But it occured to me that he has some pre-emptive strategies in place with children, even if they are unbelievers just in case they come to saving faith. In my case, he made the idea of undeserved suffering a huge stumbling block for me. I realise this now and this is why I complain so much when it happens.
I know this is an area I have to really improve upon as this is a huge part of a Christian walk and it can be dangerous if not addressed.

I am at the point where I am not sure how to get better at this and it does seem as though it is an ingrained reflex that I struggle to overcome. May it is as simple as praying to the Lord for strength in this area?

You can print these emails as I hope they are edifying to others.

In Jesus,

Response #5:

This is a great synopsis of the progression of testing we go through!

In terms of how to handle it "now", we need to learn to disassociate from the pain we feel, emotional and sometimes also physical, when we encounter such tests, keeping our eyes on Jesus and His opinion of us now and in anticipation of when we will receive our evaluation. In other words, we can "feel bad" about what we are experiencing while at the same time "feeling good" about what it all means and how it all fits into the plan of God, seeing things from His perspective rather than with eyes of flesh.

This is the example our Savior gave us, after all, throughout His life, and especially during the gauntlet He had to run to get to the cross. He endured the unendurable but He did not "lose heart", keeping His eyes on "the joy set before Him" rather than on His intense suffering. Not easy by any means, and not possible . . . except for mature believers with a great deal of truth in their hearts who are relying on the Holy Spirit instead of on their own strength. This will be a very necessary set of responses to master before the Tribulations begins.

Keeping you in my prayers, my friend.

Bob L.

Question #6:

Thanks Bob,

I had some news this morning that shows how things can change so fast, sometimes in an instance and that really we all ought to fear God.

[omitted] I haven't prayed for anything bad as I know we shouldn't pray imprecatory prayer. I have only prayed for deliverance from abuse. [omitted] I have felt discouraged for a while as it felt as though __ was thriving whilst behaving terribly towards me whilst I was suffering. I trusted the Lord though and despite my anger at this at times, I have now moved on and focused on the Lord instead.

It shows how much we all ought to fear the Lord. A few days ago __ was haughty and prideful in over me despite all the things I have genuinely done for __ empowered by the Holy Spirit. Today __ is literally in fear of losing __ job. I told you before that this is more than just a job to __, it has become a replacement for faith and because it is all tied into notions of wealth and status, it would be like losing everything that matters. You have said before __ was leaning on a hollow reed.

So we all have to realise that when people seem to be thriving whilst being arrogant boasters, they literally can be cut down overnight. We don't need (and shouldn't) seek vengeance for others but wait on the Lord because He will bring it. I don't seek vengeance as such but justice for what I have suffered through. I realise the best way to see justice brought through is to keep doing what the Lord wants of me even if that does mean underserved suffering.

Despite the pain I have gone through and how wronged I have been, I have prayed that even though I may not leave this world with a peaceable relationship that __ will hear and accept the Gospel from someone else so that one day we will walk together on the new earth in the presence of God with all forgiven and forgotten.

Please print this one Bob.

In Jesus,
p.s., In other news, Manchester was invaded by Oasis fans from all over the world. Oasis is a rock band that styles themselves as being the 'new Beatles'. They were popular when I was a teenager and I bought their first album. They are pretty mediocre to be fair but they reliably churn out anthemic singalong songs to make people feel emotional over bottles of beer. One of their most famous songs ironically enough is called 'Live Forever' (ironic given the vast majority of people who love this song probably don't believe in eternal life though that may be promised precisely that by the coming Antichrist.) Normally I wouldn't mention something like this to you but the effect these weekend concerts of Oasis are having on people reminded me of the hysteria that will be whipped up by the Antichrist. Oasis are basically two brothers with a backing band and there were flags all over Manchester with the two brothers together on it. For some reason I immediately thought that I can imagine flags of the Antichrist and the False Prophet being like a rockstar global event. I went to the library to study and people were queuing up around the block just to buy t shirts and bags and even shoes with the Oasis logo on. I never realised how globally popular they are, it was really nuts to experience.People around me speaking Italian and Spanish and even people flying in from the States just to see this band from my home city. I think part of the appeal of this band is that despite being millionaires now, they still come across as working class heroes as they still speak with heavy accents and act as though they still live on a council estate. They can from a poor background so that is part of the appeal too, that anyone, no matter how humble their background can be famous. Experiencing all those different people together of different tongues and nations gathered together for such an event reminded me of a religious pilgrimage, today thinking back it reminded me a bit of a Tower of Babel style event of gathering together for a common purpose. It was quite chilling all in all. If people are willing to spend thousands and thousands to fly to the other side of the world for a rock concert, how will they react to the Antichrist: the most bombastic and showy celebrity of them all?

p.p.s was just thinking of what I just wrote. I am now convinced that all big media events are conditioning us to accept the Antichrist. I have noticed that most big blockbuster films promote Gnosticism for example. I was wondering again about the Oasis phenomenon. The big sell is that these are brothers who have had a big and much publicised estrangement and that being on this tour has brought these two brothers together. Doesn't Mormonism teach falsely that Jesus and Satan are brothers? Maybe this is part of Gnostic teaching too? I read that the sect of the Bogomils believed this. Just wondering if this may be part of the end times deception? The idea of Jesus and Satan making a truce of sorts? I know this is a stretch but it looks as though Satan has already promoted this lie before so this could be another possibility? Again just thinking out loud but we will only know when we get there.

Response #6:

Re: the uncertainty of life. Yes, life is very uncertain. It can only appear otherwise at times. But we believers know that there is only a thread between life and death. This does not bother us inasmuch as we'd rather be with the Lord anyway (Phil.1:21-23). But being jarred left and right by events is never pleasant for anyone, and even the great believers of the Bible were unsettled by such things.

So, again, we have to make a pact with ourselves not to allow ourselves to change course even a tiny bit in our hearts just because "things go bad". Almost all Christians who are spiritually mature have had the experience of the Lord delivering them out of things that no one else could have possibly ever done for us. So we always have to be ready to wait it out, waiting for the Lord's deliverance, in any and all difficulties, trusting Him that in the end it's all for the good. We'll need that perspective to be second nature during the Tribulation.

(2) Brothers, when you are being beset with all manner of trials, take pains to be joyful. (3) For you should keep in mind that this testing of your faith develops perseverance. (4) So let your perseverance develop fully, that you may become fully mature and entitled to a full reward, having been found lacking in no respect.
James 1:2-4

Re: Oasis. Never heard of them. But then I stopped listening to music for the most part in the late seventies. I don't doubt that the evil one is leveraging every aspect of popular culture for his purposes. When it comes to music, this has been one of his greatest successes in undermining the church-visible. Therein, the "big conflict" is between traditional music and modern "Christian rock", neither of which is much more than a distraction from what really matters: teaching the Word (which has nigh on evaporated completely from most churches). So even where the two make peace it's no victory for the truth.

But there are some points of light. Our brother in GA is launching his face to face ministry tomorrow. I think it's open to the public but also on Zoom.

Keeping you in my prayers, my friend.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #7:

[omitted] This is good testing for the Tribulation. I know from 'New Age sources' (aka demons) that they are telling people that we can bring in the New Age but we have to all be 'on board' for it to work. Apparently the way they tell it is that it is like a string of Christmas lights that if one bulb is not working then none of the lights work. They will claim that if we either deny the Antichrist is God or that we are all gods then we will stop the rest of them getting their spiritual evolution/upgrade/ascension. If this is what happens during the Great Tribulation then you can see why they will start killing us off. They may believe that we are 'willfully and selfishly' stopping the whole world from being 'born again' satanically.

Response #7:

I have no doubts at all about you being able to endure this trouble, my friend. I am praying for a good resolution. As you say, this is "good testing" inasmuch as the alternatives are clear with the one costing us here and now and the other costing us forever – so there really isn't a choice for loyal believers like yourself other than to continue to trust the Lord to get us through no matter what.

(12) Beloved, don't be alarmed at the fiery ordeal which has befallen you and is putting you to the test – as if something out of the ordinary were happening to you. (13) But to the degree that you are [truly] participating in Christ's sufferings, be joyful about it, so that at His glorious revelation, you may also rejoice with great gladness. (14) If you are [indeed] being reproached on account of Christ's name, you are [truly] blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of power, even the Spirit of God, rests upon you (i.e., to support you in the trial). (15) Now let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or a meddler, (16) but if [anyone should suffer for being labeled] as a "Chrestian" (lit., "goody-goody" follower of Christ), let him not be ashamed of it. Let him rather glorify God under that name. (17) For it is time for the judgment to begin, starting with God's household. And if it first begins with us, what will be the end of those who do not believe God's gospel? (18) For [as it says], "If the righteous man is barely saved, where will the ungodly and sinful turn? (Prov.11:31)". (19) Therefore let all those who are suffering according to the will of God entrust their lives – while doing what is good – to a Creator who is faithful.
1st Peter 4:12-19

Question #8:

[omitted]

Response #8:

This is awful! I am praying.

Also, apparently a number of my emails were sent but didn't arrive somehow.

Thanks for keeping me in the loop.

These are problems only the Lord can solve.

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Question #9:

[omitted]

Response #9:

Re: "I just try to do my best here and rest in the Spirit and be led by Him and wait on Him." Amen! That is, in the end, all any of us can do – and that is absolutely sufficient. It is, in short, exactly what we are supposed to be doing. This is a good test in respect of the fact that while there is much you are doing – even to the point of exhausting yourself, emotionally and physically – there is really nothing YOU can do. You can't control your family members, you can't make decisions for them, you can't reach into their hearts and throw a switch to make them see reality . . . or turn to the Lord. You ARE giving them the best possible witness of the life as well as sharing words of truth with them. That is much to be admired . . . but all results lie entirely in the lap of the Lord. So it is to Him we look for deliverance . . . as at all times and in all things.

Deliverance belongs to the LORD;
thy blessing be upon thy people! Selah

Just saw this – prayers for help and intervention from the Lord – and for strength for you to get through.

Question #11:

 [omitted]

Response #11:

At least it's good to hear that finally someone is taking the situation seriously.

I'm praying that at last they'll be able to figure out what the problem is and do something about it.

In the meantime, I'm praying for your health too and strength to be able to get through this. And I hope and pray also that all this will finally bring your family to see how much you've done for them . . . and muster up a wee bit of gratitude.

Re: "It made me feel that everything will work out for good in the end because God is good and His plan is perfect." Amen! Your excellent attitude in trusting the Lord is a real inspiration, my friend!

Question #12:

Hi Bob,

Indeed, it is. I've found some solace in online groups over the years. Yes, please have them send an invitation; thank you for the offer. I will likely only lurk for a bit before interacting, but I think it's a good idea. I am happy praying and worshiping at home, but life for a single guy gets lonely sometimes. Not necessarily in a romantic sense, sometimes you can meet good people at a decent church, sometimes not. My mom is still a big believer in church and the Christian holidays, although not nearly as much as when I was young. I grew up in a Lutheran church, did Sunday school, communion, and confirmation, etc

Your three false doctrines link was informative. Fortunately, I've never bought into any of those things, but having it all laid out like that is still helpful. I know people who believe in once saved, always saved, and even that you are somehow forgiven for sins you haven't committed yet. So basically, you don't need to continue to repent. How misguided can a person get? There will come a time and place where I will send those links to someone! The Bible says (as you know) to pray without ceasing. I will continue to do so to the best of my ability as long as I'm alive.

In Jesus Christ,

Response #12:

Thanks for the encouraging email and for the updates. I appreciate you, my friend.

I've sent the moderator a message just now asking him to send you an invite. Let me know if you haven't heard anything after about a week or so (sometimes these messages end up in spam/junk folders).

Keeping you in my prayers, my friend.

Question #13:

Hi Bob,

Just a 'heads up' about the news over here.. It only just came to my attention today that there has been a large number of 'syringe attacks' on young women at outdoor music festivals across the whole of France just under a week ago. The number is about 145 women who have been injected. The reason I am telling you this is that this news report is important in many ways.

England now really is a country on the edge and as there has already been warnings of young women in England to be at risk from these syringe attacks, something like this could really just set the whole country ablaze. Things are so dry as tinder here that all it would take is one spark.

This really can't go on for much longer and really does point towards a surge in hatred towards Islam and a coming Mahdi as you have interpreted in your Coming Tribulation series. Side by side with these attacks in France, a hugely famous music festival in England (Glastonbury) which is as big as Woodstock used to be (with the same hippy values) has had two acts on this week that has spouted death threats to the IDF and general encouragement of pro-Palestine and anti-Semitic rhetoric which has become the norm over here.

The anger is that the BBC promotes and gives voice to anti-Semitism all the time but goes quiet after any scandal/terrorism concerning Islam. The bias is now so blatant and unabated. Our PM here is dubbed "two tier Kier" due to his two tier policing policy of protecting Islamic terrorists but arresting Christians silently praying outside abortion clinics.

I know that all these politics are used by the enemy as a 'poking the bear' strategy and is a fiendishly sticky morass that all of us growing Christians should stay far, far away from (and I agree) but I just wanted for you to get an idea of how things are 'hotting up' this side of the pond.

Response #13:

I really don't watch the news much anymore, but I think I had heard something about the attacks in France and they did make a big deal about the concert on your isle (for about one news cycle). Very good observations (as always) on the spiritual implications and the possible near term ramifications. Things could go either way. Reaction from the right or also from the left . . . or something none of us is expecting . . . to lead to setting up for the takeover by antichrist. We may find out soon. Meanwhile, we continue to prepare.

Keeping you and yours in my daily prayers, my friend.

Question #14:

Hello Dr. Luginbill!

I hope this finds you and yours well! How are things in your neck of the woods — so to speak?

Could you direct me to info on or help me understand the meaning of Rev. 22:18-19; there are some very stiff judgments noted!

Some of the emails you posted tonight I was able to identify with; it is a comfort to know we aren’t on our own.

Have a wonderful evening!

Response #14:

Doing well! Hope the same is true of you and yours. I'm keeping you in my daily prayers.

On your question, I discuss this passage at length at the link in CT 7. Essentially, this warning is directed against unbelievers who would attempt to alter the Word in any way, and speaks to the Lord's preservation of His Word for us (see in BB 7: The Completeness of the Bible). Please have a look, and do feel free to write back if there's anything you still have questions about.

Glad to hear that these were helpful! It's always an encouragement to see others facing similar fiery trials . . . and overcoming (1Pet.4:12-13; 5:9). We can do that too, with the help of the Spirit and the sword of the Word of God.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #15:

Hello Dr. Luginbill,

I've been reading your work on the coming Tribulation and I've found it to be something I (and my hubby) want to further study and re-read. I am a paper and highlighter kinda person and wanted to ask your permission to print that series for our own personal study and preparation.

Thank you for what you've done in putting it all together! Your site is all I read from anymore!

Your writings have changed the way I live in this world... eyes less on what we see now and more on the world to come! It is a weight off ones shoulders when you really believe in such better things to come, this world is NOT where it's at! What hope we have in our Lord! I pray we can prepare for what's coming to stay strong.

Response #15:

Good to hear from you! Of course you may print out these studies. The only restriction I ever put on that is that I don't allow third parties to profit from these materials or to pass them off as their own (see the link: Ichthys Usage Policy).

Thanks for all your encouraging words! Re: "changed the way I live in this world... eyes less on what we see now and more on the world to come!" The Word of God always does this, if we give it the proper place in our lives and devote ourselves to walking daily closer to our dear Savior.

Yes, we all need to "stay strong" . . . and we can, the Lord helping us through His Spirit and the truth of the Word of God.

"So be alert at all times, praying that you might have the strength to endure all these things which are going to happen, and to stand before the Son of Man."
Luke 21:36

Thanks for all your encouraging words!

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #16:

Hi Dr L,

So I am reading Protagoras and keep thinking wow he is going to hate Socrates by the end of this.

I have spent most of my life on the whims of others because I had to. I had to be with my family to survive and it was a form of begging 'please be companions with me.' And I was like that with almost everyone for most of life because I didn't know another way and because I deeply wanted connection. I came at it from a desperate attitude, and often took bad behavior. And it is also the hearing thing, it MAKES you live for their whims if you want to communicate, unless you want to do what some deaf people do and give up (I think that is too far btw). I just mean my experience and orientation has almost been a form of no agency, no self esteem, and slavery. And recently I have been having enough. I saw this guy who was suffering, there was a bit of going to empathy, but then there was finally a strong sense of protection, because as I know know know people are not going to care about me, not going to do anything if I am suffering (with very, very rare exceptions: yourself, and the very very rare stranger who does help), and I have seen people use and hurt and abandon me, and as soon as they saw I was not high up in status devalue any empathy...you get the idea. There are lots of thoughts like that, and there are many other similar things that are difficult for me, but I think you get the idea. This particular reaction point was just a microcosm example of how I am beginning to feel I have started to want to pray that things being this way for me, and me being disallowed very basic relationship knowledge and things, I am tired of that being my life, living solely for working out how this stuff is supposed to work and oh did I make them uncomfortable did I not self deprecate right then enough etc.

Truth is I just want to say that people can get lost, I don't want to be a slave anymore to their whims and emotions like I have been (and have had to try due to wanting to connect). I want to focus on myself. And God. But I do get frustrated because I know the Bible says to love others. But maybe I can see my position as like the lepers who were away from society and obviously there's a limited amount I imagine God would expect of them Re loving others and focusing on others. I don't know if this makes me look really bad, but I have to be honest to get better if I am in the wrong. Well the honest thing was that I __ a bit at first like those deaf people I mentioned, but I know that isn't right. This may be something you don't know, and that is okay.

I hope you are well,

Response #16:

I do know something about the deaf community as I have had some prior experiences, and, currently at the university, the ASL program (mostly staffed by deaf persons) is part of our department. It was a revelation to me much earlier in life when I came to recognize that they have their own culture entirely. Blind people just can't see. Deaf people really don't "get" what we "hearings" do and we don't "get" entirely how they relate to each other. Also, as I get older, my hearing isn't perfect (too much time on the tank ramp listening to those high pitched diesels without ear protection). There have been times at work (teaching) and socially when I "didn't get it", and even though these are still few, it does make a difference. It would be hard for me to do my job if my hearing and such episodes were a lot worse and more frequent. I can vouch for the fact that people are also not at all sympathetic and seem to take offense when you "don't get it". So I do understand on some small level that yours is a difficult "row to hoe".

As to what that means, well, I don't think it's ever a good idea to put people first. The Lord loves us perfectly, and HE hears us – and we hear Him too if we listen with our hearts (regardless of the state of our ears). He should always be top priority in all things. If He is, as we grow closer to Him, He is quite capable of providing for all of our needs, including on the personal side of things. Many great believers spent "time in the wilderness" alone, and in many cases that was the making of them. Rather than being resentful of being exiled with the sheep, for example, David developed one of the closest relationships with the Lord that scripture records.

Also, I might add, to a certain extent, all of us believers who really do love the Lord with all of our hearts and who are making genuine efforts to do what pleases Him are "the odd men out", "lepers", "pariahs", not just in the eyes of society but also in the eyes of the vast majority of the church-visible. When we put Jesus and the truth first, rejecting their lukewarm assemblies and false practices, we are standing as a witness against them, even though we bear them no ill will. By not doing as they are doing, in their minds we are insinuating that what they are doing is wrong – which it is – even though it is not our intent to call negative attention to them but only to do what the Lord wants us to do ourselves.

We DO love all our brothers and sisters in Christ. But we show that love by setting a good example (even if they don't take it that way). NOT by lowering our standards and compromising for the sake of fellowship with those who are already compromised.

I keep you in my prayers daily, my friend.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #17:

Hi Dr L,

It does sound like you do have an idea Re your own hearing, have you gone to an audiologist?

But that point I was coming to, where I just kind of want to take that attitude some men have of how I stopped much empathy for that guy I saw suffering (I did explain why above), and wanting to focus on myself and not them, and thinking that verses about loving others will be a little different for me, that my life is supposed to be more of an isolated independent kind and so that does mean a lot of focus on self (needs and some wants) and God.

I do appreciate everything you wrote. Though I do think mainly it is believers that come from broken backgrounds that are more comparable, not ones that had the normal rich western foundation, and are a bit in pain now. I mean no offense by that. It was also a realization when I saw in the Bible it making a real deal when someone went through a pain once, that I (and others with a broken background) am just kind of used to. Kind of like testing once Re the Israelites and food, and Lazarus it just being normal for him. Though I do think obviously he had it much harder than me. Anyway I hope all of this isn't coming off badly.

If you clarify on this turning point I feel inside, if you think it isn't sinful, I would appreciate it.

Please take care,

Response #17:

Apologies in advance, my friend, if I've misunderstood in any way or given you the impression that I am unsympathetic to the heavy load you're carrying and have been throughout your life. You are a testament to the grace of God and to the truth of the fact that it is the person him/herself and their decisions which are important, inasmuch as many with no troubles often reject the Lord while many with great troubles often blame Him. But you have taken refuge under the shelter of His wings, and there is no better place of peace and safety on this side of eternity.

Re: "believers that come from broken backgrounds that are more comparable, not ones that had the normal rich western foundation". If you're keeping up with the emails weekly, you'll note that there are a lot of people connected to this ministry that have a lot more than a little pain now and many who were abused in the past including in their childhood. Of one thing we can be sure, no believer who is trying to do what the Lord wants us to do is going to be unopposed by the evil one (1Pet.5:8-9), and it's really problematic to think that we have it tougher than they do or even that we have it easier. Either proposition may be true, but none of us is having to suffer what, e.g., Paul did – let alone what our Lord did. We are told that we are not tested beyond what we can actually bear (1Cor.10:13), and our Lord has assured us that His yoke is perfectly fit for each one of us as well as bearable (Matt.11:29-30). So while it may not seem like it to us as we bear a particularly heavy burden or as we watch others bearing burdens we are sure we ourselves could not bear, the plan of God is working out perfectly for everyone (Rom.8:28). Our God and Father and our Lord Jesus Christ are comporting themselves towards us all each individually in just the perfect way for us. Our job is to accept that truth as true, then do our best to respond to whatever they bring our way, keeping our eyes and our hearts focused not on the things of this temporary world which are so uncertain, but on the wonders of eternity which will very soon be the only reality. If we do this with all our hearts, we stand to win blessed rewards which will delight us and which will glorify the Savior we love so much for all eternity.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
2nd Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV

Keeping you in my daily prayers my friend for all these matters.

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #18:

Hi Bob,

Greetings from the other left side! Hope things are going well for you in this season (Ecc. 3:1). I just finished up your new segment on Heb. Ch. 12. It's excellent, and gives good insight for applying this to approach current situations for all of us. Thank you for continuing this arduous work. I know your reward will be coming for you faithfully following our Lord's command, so we can observe and obey all things that are being taught! (Matt. 28:20). Looking forward to one more Chapter. Then what? Closing arguments before the bell rings? One day closer to trouble, but a great (powerful resurrection) wonderful outcome in the end! (1 Cor. 2:9; Matt. 24:13; John 11:25-26; Phil. 3:9-14)

Things are doing OK here in my season, some good, some not so good. But I'm thankful that God is helping get through the ongoing rough patches, one day at a time. Where would we be without His sufficient grace? I'm glad we're playing on the champion team, even though we are playing with a few injuries. Despite any struggles, we are everyday overcoming and winning against this losing world. So, that is a good report! (1 John 5:4; Phil. 4:8).

However, it's not all good news for everyone in my small circle. There's not much in the "breakthrough dept." to report about my family. But, I'm praying for a miracle, all the same, for their multiple issues, as well as my several health issues. Thank you for keeping all of us in prayer, Bob! I hope their free-will will kick in effectively to see the truth, to decide to find God's solution, and resulting in His deliverance...... that hopefully will happen before the game is over.

Time will tell. "With God all things are possible" is what I always fall back on. I always trust He knows best, and that He will not hold back any good thing from anyone who seeks Him. He is in control of everything, so there's no need to worry too much, even though sometimes I get a little frustrated and anxious. I'm working on this.

Re: your response #20 from last Sat. email. It has nothing to do with health and healing, but it stirred up a memory of an old episode from the past, making me think that "moderation" is a very reasonable way to go in a lot of things.

I got a kick out of your 1,000 lb. of TNT example of tree removal in lieu of comparing improper "over the top" extreme medical help vs. "reasonable" medical care or treatment.

54 years ago, when I had a job working in the woods building a campground, I had to clear out a huge old growth fir stump, that was in the middle of a road that we were building. It had to go. We couldn't dig it out with our John Deere 450-B dozer, so we had thought to use "stump powder" to extract it. We were using nitro-carbo-nitrate fertilizer along with 20% TNT ("Stump powder") . I was a gringo to all this at the time, (never had used fertilizer yet), so I thought a Folgers coffee can full of the fertilizer, plus a couple sticks of 20% dynamite ought to take care of the job. Wrong! When I returned to check things out after the blast, I immediately realized my assay of the job was off, by a long shot! The stump was gone alright, but so was enough dirt, rocks, and debris to bury a 1 ton crew-cab pickup! Overkill, for sure. So I learned a little was better than a lot that day! At least I lived to tell the tale, and didn't launch myself inadvertently into outer space with all what was missing. So, per your assessment, I concur that the "middle ground" is better than no ground at all.

Thanks again for everything, Bob! I'm praying that He will supply all your needs and keep you going, so we can continue to be strengthened in our faith. Let me know of any special prayer requests for you. All the best!

Your friend in Jesus,

Response #18:

Great to hear from you, my friend. Sorry you don't have a glowing report of deliverance on all the many fronts you're fighting on, but that just makes your positive attitude all the more impressive: "Despite any struggles, we are everyday overcoming and winning against this losing world. So, that is a good report!" Amen, it sure is! We should all be doing likewise. It is funny how one "problem", often not even the most difficult or consequential of what we are facing, can have a tendency to sour everything and slant our focus . . . if we let it. Rather, we all need to do what you are doing, "arcing" over the present and keeping our focus on the wonderful eternity our Savior has in store for us, one that no one can stop from coming and happening, just as long as we stay faithful. And of course the more faithful we stay, the better the "Well done!" we stand to receive on that day . . . soon to come, one way or another, praise the Lord!

"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:19-21 NKJV

For many and probably most of us, "no worries" about not "laying up treasures" down here! That "problem" is usually taking care of itself. But the principle of focusing on our eternal reward is crucial for us all, rich (doubt it) or poor (or somewhere in between). Our job is very simple in the short interim between Kingdom come and today: stay faithful.

Now without faith, it is impossible to please [God]. For whoever wishes to draw nearer to God must believe that He exists, and that He will reward those who earnestly seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6

Thanks for the good words about Hebrews chapter 12. Yes, I'm working away on 13 [note: now posted at the link]. It might take me a minute. While it's not as long as some of the others, each verse is fairly well "packed" with things that need to be explained. I'm hoping to have it done by Christmas. Interestingly enough I'm calling it "Paul's Closing Argument", since it is his last appeal to that congregation before the soon-to-come Tribulation-like Roman conquest. If I stay on schedule, that will give me the rest of '26 to do as you anticipate, namely, a recap series to help us all focus on the great challenges ahead. That is the plan at present, anyway (as long as I don't get run over by a bus or something) [note: plans changed: Colossians is next up].

Thanks for the great stump story! Certainly "stumped" mine (sorry).  Praying for miracles on your end, my friend, and not just one. Thanks for your prayers too!

In Jesus,

Bob L.

Question #19:

Hello Brother

I hope this note finds you well and in the loving care of our Lord and Savior.

You have been heavy on my heart and mind. You remain in my prayers daily.

We have been acquainted for many, many years. I have learned so much from you and grown & continue to grow in my walk with the Lord.

Brother, as the person I look to as a teacher and a fellow soldier in the trenches, I wonder if you are feeling the same oppressive heaviness as I do.

I have no complaints. Our family continues to be blessed. __ situation is the same . . . [omitted] . . . and we are so thankful the Lord has kept them in His Hands.

[omitted] Sadly, [omitted]. As you may recall, many years ago, I had suffered the same. As the Lord always does, He allowed me to have that lesson so that I could comfort __ during grieving. They have been cleared by the doctor and are waiting on the Lord to work in their lives.

Time is speeding up - we know this must happen. I have studied with you about the tribulation for years but I'm still shocked at what I can only assume is the beginning of birth pains. I know they have to be even closer together, ever more wars, rumors of them, all the signs that we are to watch for are coming to fruition. The heaviness in the world, some days, truly feels like a weight I am carrying. Not alone, but it is a physical feeling. I am not oblivious to the fact that the adversary is "playing chess" to turn a phrase. I suppose he thinks we're playing checkers. I know this feeling will become more intense. I pray daily that I am walking ever closer and have on my spiritual armor as the battle intensifies. I know that this world is a distraction from our duties for the Lord. I am a mere human with all the flaws that brings. There is so much noise, some days I struggle to ignore it.

I work in manufacturing, sales. Maybe that's my struggle. I have to live in this world and not be of this world. In order to render unto Caesar, I do have to know what the tariffs are today. I'm on the phones daily and hear far more about the business of the world than I'd like. I speak to people in every country in the world and I know that what is happening in our neck of the woods is going on in the far corners of the globe. It is overwhelming some days.

I pray for you, Brother, that the Lord protects you as you are a shepherd to a large flock. I pray that if you have read this and find areas that I need to improve (of course, I am human) and will call them out to me in the gentle way you always correct me and the other sheep you are guiding.
I pray for your safety and protection in the Lord. This world is evil and grows more so daily. I pray the Lord allows you to continue your good work as we need generals like you guiding the infantry.

As I write this we are under a flood warning and the thunder is loud, the lightening is bright. I feel this note has rambled and not communicated clearly all the things I want to convey to you. Somehow, I think the Lord will fill in what I seem to lack the words for.

I look forward to meeting you in Heaven, Brother. My apologies for taking up so much of your time. You remain in my prayers.

May Our Lord hold you in His Hands,

Response #19:

It's a pleasure to hear from you!

Thank you so much for this encouraging letter, my friend. I'm doing well – and I thank you for your prayers. It does my heart good to hear of your focus on the truth and cognizance of the times, though I am sorry to hear about __'s loss. The fact that your own experience has allowed you some grounds for mutual encouragement in the Lord is a measure of the awesome grace of God shining through the tears. I have been and will be keeping you and your family in my prayers. Thank you for the update and for the details. I'm happy to hear __'s story. It's also a blessing that the Lord has given your __some quality of life in spite of all the suffering.

Re: "I know that this world is a distraction from our duties for the Lord. I am a mere human with all the flaws that brings. There is so much noise, some days I struggle to ignore it." There is much godly humility in these remarks, and much wisdom too. Yes it is very "noisy" down here, and all good Christians are fighting the temporal battles we have to fight on many fronts at once. But for those who in spite of job, and home, and health, and family, and financial, and other issues still manage to put the Lord first, we can be confident that our Lord honors that now and will in the future when He evaluates our lives as well. That is what really matters. And in terms of whatever darkness is coming, that is still really the only thing that matters in the end. So we strive to prepare at present, and we keep our eyes focused on our dear Savior, determined to stay faithful to Him and to do as He would have us to do, no matter what may betide.

Thanks again for all this, my friend. Indeed, the day of reunion when the Bride rises to salute our Savior as one perfect Church will be a grand one indeed.

In Jesus Christ our Lord,

Bob L.

Question #20:

[omitted]

Response #20:

Re: "__ doesn't realise just how far I've progressed since all of those false teachings." This sums up why the world doesn't "get" us and why we feel disconnected from world – because we are. That is what paying attention to the truth does for us.

"I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it."
John 17:14-16 NIV

So while we're "still here", our heart is elsewhere.

Keeping you in my prayers, my friend.

In Jesus,

Bob L.
